Benefits of using “Hydraulic Drive Assist” hybrid system
Fuel consumption reduction.
Smaller percentage for long haul (approx 15% to 20%) but fuel spend is greater. Higher percentage savings for trucks operating in stop and go duty cycle (approx 30% to 40%) but lower fuel spend…..ROI is very similar.
Increases Performance & Extends Engine / Truck Life:
The Hydraulic motor does virtually all the work at take off and assists on hill climb. Engine braking is not used nearly as much as the trucks slows under hydraulic resistance (regenerative braking) .
Reduces wear on transmission:
Relives the initial shock to the drive line components as the Hydraulic motor takes the initial load at take off. The powerful hydraulic motor engages directly to the drive shaft after the transmission / clutch.
The normal brakes on the truck operate in exactly the same manner however regenerative braking becomes the primary method used to slow the truck.
When the driver releases the throttle pedal the truck is slowed by the resistance on the drive line caused by using the pump/motor pumping oil from the low pressure reservoir into the high pressure accumulator. I.e The HDA platform captures energy normally wasted as heat during braking and re-uses this same energy to accelerate the truck. , thereby reducing fuel and emissions.
Use of the HDA platform prolongs the life of the mechanical brakes on the truck. In some instances by a factor of 4.
To assist in launching or climbing hills, the high pressure accumulator releases the pressurized hydraulic oil to drive the pump/motor and help propel the truck. This oil then moves on to the low pressure tank ready to be sent back into a high pressure state when slowing down is needed. Power from the HDA hydraulic pump/motor and accumulators is seamlessly blended with engine power depending on driver demand. The hydraulic motor is extremely powerful and has a lot of torque at very low revs. This becomes the primary method to start the truck rolling and accelerating. This is where the diesel engine is at its most inefficient and most polluting stage.
Reduces brake wear:
The hydraulic motor engages “regen” as the operator eases back on the accelerator to slow the vehicle, then continues when he uses the brake pedal. This acts as the main method to slow the truck down. Overseas examples are that a 4 x increase in brake life using a hydraulic hybrid platform.
Under acceleration the hydraulic motor does most of the work accelerating the truck thereby letting the OEM engine slowly come up to speed with reduced noise.
Reduction of GHG emissions:
By taking over the majority of the work when the OEM diesel is at its most noisy and polluting. By installing the zero emissions Hydraulic Drive Assist there will be a reduction in GHG emission greater than fuel consumption reductions.
Lower Acquisition Cost:
Attractive total cost of ownership. From installation to running and maintenance the HHT HDA hybrid platform is cheaper to own when compared to all types of Gas OEM or conversions and other Alt fuels’. With the system paying for itself with in 2 to 3 years at today’s fuel prices.
The HDA is the best investment to increase performance , extend usable truck life and limit your exposure to rising fuel prices while reducing your GHG emissions.
